SMT1 Type High-grade Activated Carbon Desulfurizer

SMT1 is a kind of high-grade activated carbon which is carbonized through a special technical process, supplemented with various of special additives and activated through a special technical process. It features large specific surface area, high pore rate, high sulfur absorption capacity (over three times higher than common activated carbon), and high desulfurization accuracy (less than 1 ppm). This product is widely used for H2S removal in natural gas, biogas, oil and gas fields, coal gas, shale gas, coking furnace gas, shift gas, LNG, CNG and other sulfur containing gas, along with simple equipment and through easy operation, having high degrees of purification and adaptability. The carbonyl sulfide in the gas can, to a certain extent, also be desorbed.

Defulfurization Mechanism

The desulfurization mechanism of activated carbon is to accelerate the production of the following reaction of the H2S and O2 in the gas with the help of the catalytic action of the surface activity genes of activated carbon:

                2H2S+O2-----2H2O+2S         ΔH=-434.3kJ/mol

Actually, the reaction between  H2S and O2 on the surface of activated carbon is carried out in two steps: first, the activated carbon absorbs oxygen at its surface to form activated oxides on the surface; then  the H2S molecules in the gases react with the adsorbed oxygen to produce sulfur, which is deposited on micropores of the activated carbon. To accelerate the reaction and improve the desulfurization efficiency, the actual ratio of O2/H2S should  be larger than the theoretical value of 0.5, and the preferable value of the ratio is 3.

Active metals such as copper, alkali metals and alkaline earth metals can be introduced into the activated carbon  desulfurizer by impregnation to make the activated carbon modified and its catalyzing efficiency improved.
